Studio Policy
Instrument and Material Requirement
Students are required to have a working instrument at the start of each semester. Due to Covid and the limited piano tuners, the instrument is not required to be 100% functioning. Please, if purchasing a keyboard, purchase a weighted, full 88-key piano, proper stand, sustain pedal and bench. For trumpet students, please ensure you have an instrument, 7C mouthpiece, valve oil, slide grease, an instrument snake and mute. Please insure your student brings their books and necessary equipment each lesson. Lessons will be forfeited, without refund or makeup and count towards the freebie, without materials. It is not the responsibility of the teacher to improvise a lesson.
Parking And Attendance
You may park in the driveway, behind the white car, but please leave space behind the black van. You may also park in front of the house. Please arrive on-time or slightly early. It is not necessary to knock or ring the bell, please just walk in! We are expecting you! Please use the front door visible from the road.
An adult over the age of 18 is required to stay on the premises during lessons. It is acceptable to wait in the living room, attend a lesson, in a vehicle, or on either front or back porch
If you are over 10 minutes late for a 30 minute lesson, or 15 minutes late for a 45 minute lesson, your lesson will be forfeited.
Piano Hygiene and Sickness
Upon entering, please remove your shoes and promptly wash your hard with soap and water. You may use a provided nail pick to clean dirt from under finger nails as needed. Please keep the bathroom neat and tidy. Finger nails should be kept short and not extend beyond the finger tip. Please trim nails prior to lessons as long nails prevent the development of good technique. If nails are too long, lesson time may be used to study music history, theory, or non-playing skills.
Please do not attend lessons with an active fever, COVID symptoms of if anyone in your home is awaiting a negative COVID test. If anyone in your home has COVID symptoms please let Ms. Ali know as soon as possible especially if you have attended lessons during a possible asymptomatic period.
Practice Requirements
Students are given individualized practice materials as well as expected practice times during the week. Please log this online or in the student's notebook. Practice is required to progress. Treating piano like the academic subject it is will ensure students grow and enjoy piano in the long run. Not all weeks have "fun" music but it is important parents encourage and implement a practice schedule at home. Quality practicing is always more important than the quantity of practice. Students who show a consistent period of practice refusal will be dismissed from the studio.
Missed Lessons
Lessons are paid to secure your student's slot, regardless of attendance. There will be NO make-up lessons or payment reduction offered unless the missed lesson is due to Ms. Ali. Payment is expected on-time, the same as if the lesson was in attendance. A late fee will still be applied to the missed lesson.
Dismissal
Ms. Ali reserves the right to dismiss and retain and/or bill for 4 WEEKS of tuition without a refund to a student or family for any, but not limited to, the following reasons; multiple missed lessons a semester, unpaid lessons, tardiness, refusal to practice, negative attitude, disrespectful behavior or persons, the home, or the instrument, refusing to abide by Ms. Ali's procedures or attending lessons while sick or with known COVID exposure. Ms. Ali also reserves the right to dismiss students for scheduling conflicts on the teacher's end. A 30 DAY WRITTEN NOTICE, via email, facebook messenger or text message, is required to quit lessons. Lessons will be paid 4 weeks after notice, regardless of attendance as it takes time to refill a slot for a waitlisted student.
