When can my student start?
Students can start playing as early as age 3 if they can sit for 15 minutes of instruction, can read and recognize letters A to Z, and can count and recognize numbers 1 to 10. Exceptions are made for group lessons. It is never to late, even into adulthood, to start playing piano. Students ages 3 to 6 lessons typically consist of music discussion, games, flashcards, hands on materials, ear training, note and keyboard identification, finger number system, music terms and basic history. Students at this age may progress slower than anticipate by parents, but it is absolutely normal! Curriculum is adjusted to meet the needs of each individual student. Students at this age are expect to practice 15 to 20 minutes 5 to 6 days a week.

Primer Level Students
Students ages 6/7 to 10 are primer level students who are more ready for formal music lessons. These lessons are centered around the Faber Music Curriculum, teaching technique, theory, music understanding and performance skills. Lessons are formal, with breaks given based on the student's specific needs. Typically students progress one book level per year. Students who start at 5 are typically, into Level 3 by age 10. This is absolutely dependent on the student's work ethic, parent involvement and general understanding of music. Students in this age group are typically expected to attend ONE 30 minute lesson a week and practice 20 to 30 minutes 5 to 6 days a week outside of piano lessons.

Older Beginners
Students ages 10+ are older beginner students who require longer lessons with a faster moving curriculum. 45 minute lessons are mandatory for older students. The Faber Advanced Learner Series typically fits the needs of most students in this age range. Lessons focus on developing music reading ability quickly and addressing technique use quickly. Scales and Dozen A Day books are incorporated once a student has an understanding of reading, movement and technique. Student's work quickly through levels though discipline and mastery. Students are expected to practice 30 to 45 minutes when starting at this level 5 to 6 days a week outside of piano lessons.

Moving On...
Moving onto another teacher is always a sad but exciting days. Ms. Ali only teaches beginner and intermediate level piano. There will come a point where Ms. Ali will assist you in finding another teacher to meet your child's needs as they progress or to accommodate a move. This is essential to developing a strong pianist. Learning under different teachers is a GREAT way to build a students technique, musicality, and abilities.
